In 1980 M.D.I. Alcohol & Drug Abuse Group, Inc. founded the Harriet Suydam Gibney Memorial Library at the Chemical Dependency Office at MDI Hospital. In 1989 a second branch of this library was founded, and is housed at the Acadia Family Center in Southwest Harbor.

With over 700 titles, our lending library is unequaled in other small community agencies. The lending library is available to clients, clinicians, and the general public. Stop by any time during our regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm) to browse our collection and borrow a book or two if you would like. We also have a substantial reference library for treatment professionals that is also accessible during our regular hours.

We continue to acquire books, audio and video on topics such as:
Recovery • Alcoholism • AA/12-Step Programs • Adult Children of Alcoholics
Abuse • Boundaries • Co-Dependency • Parenting
Marriage/Divorce • Addiction • Depression • Trauma
Co-occurring Disorders • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy • Resiliency
Art Therapy • Eating Disorders • Inspiration

We Can't Have Too Many Books!

Acadia Family Center is always looking for new additions to our lending library and welcome donations from private donors as well as libraries, hospitals, and other institutions that no longer have room for some of their substance abuse or mental health-related materials.

Many in-kind donations are tax deductible!

If you would like to make a donation to our library, please call 207-244-4012 or email info@acadiafamilycenter.org.
